While you might not master the song, there will be a technique you pick up or a bit of insight you gain from pushing your limits. Progress will sometimes be fast and sometimes VERY slow but if you keep up a consistent practice schedule and try to play at least a few minutes every day, you'll do fine. I've managed to make some progress but I'm still pretty new, here's what I think I've learned from the experience. I picked up guitar after years of thinking about it a few years ago.
